摘要:

Tissues and organs within our body are encapsulated and interconnected by a body-wide and specialized connective tissue layer termed as fascia. My lab has pioneered methods to study the fascia in living tissues and in animals. During our studies, we have uncovered a remarkable dependency between organs and their surrounding fascia, profoundly affecting injury repair, disease, and development. Our findings of organ-fascia dependence challenge and reconfigures our current view of our body’s repair system, placing fascia at the forefront of tissue/organ pathophysiology. I will outline an innovative research program that aims to uncover the fundamental cell and molecular basis of fascia-organ dependency, as basis for translational research in regenerative medicine. Understanding organ-fascia dependency provides a novel therapeutic space to curtail pathological fibrotic responses and enhance regenerative healing across a range of pertinent medical settings.
