On the interplay between regeneration and ageing

 

摘要:

Renowned for their exceptional abilities to regenerate complex structures, salamanders also display additional noteworthy traits, namely extraordinary longevity, indefinite regenerative potential, apparent lack of traditional signs of age-related decay and defiance of Gompertz’s law of mortality. As such, they constitute valuable models for addressing the nature of organismal senescence and the interplay between regeneration and ageing.

 

Here, I will introduce the axolotl as a novel model in ageing research, discuss our lab's efforts towards understanding how salamanders regulate hallmarks of ageing through regeneration and lifespan, and elaborate on the potential of salamander models to illuminate the basis of negligible senescence.
