Laboratory Introduction
Dr. Shiyu Liu graduated from the School of Life Sciences at Peking University in 2016 and earned his Ph.D. degree in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from Duke University in 2021. Following his doctoral studies, he continued as a postdoctoral researcher at Duke University. In January 2025, Dr. Liu will establish his independent laboratory at the Chinese Institute for Medical Research, Beijing (CIMR).
A. Research Direction
The laboratory will focus on metabolic flux analysis as its core technology, with the goal of developing innovative methods for deciphering metabolic activities in complex organisms. By integrating metabolic flux analysis with diverse physiological, multi-omics, and genetic technologies, the lab aims to:
1. Investigate how varying nutritional conditions influence metabolic activities across multiple organs in animals, and explore strategies for actively modulating metabolic pathways to restore or optimize dysfunctional metabolic states.
2. Utilize spatial metabolomics technologies to examine tissue-level metabolic heterogeneity, revealing the link between this heterogeneity and the normal functioning of organs.
Through these approaches, the lab aspires to quantitatively uncover the fundamental principles governing metabolic networks in living systems and design novel therapeutic strategies to address a wide range of metabolic diseases.
