Recently, Professor Chuan-Yuan Li from Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR), Beijing and Capital Medical University published a research article titled "A noncanonical cytoplasmic role for BUB1 in restraining DNA damage–induced dsRNA accumulation and sensing within stress granules" in the journal Science Immunology. This study reveals a previously unrecognized, non-canonical role of BUB1 in the cytoplasm—suppressing DNA damage, particularly the accumulation of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) induced by radiation therapy and the subsequent immune response. In mouse models, tumor cells lacking BUB1 exhibit heightened sensitivity to both radiotherapy and immunotherapy, suggesting that BUB1 could serve as a novel therapeutic target in cancer immunotherapy.
