2025 International Conference on Medical Physiology Concludes Successfully
Date:2025-10-24

The 2025 International Conference on Medical Physiology (ICMP 2025) was held in Beijing on October 22, 2025. The conference was organized by Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR), Beijing and co-organized by Capital Medical University, Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences, and Beijing Society for Neuroscience. The execution of the conference was jointly managed by the Chinese Institute for Medical Physiology (IMP) at CIMR, along with the Media and Communication Department and the Science Affairs Department of CIMR.

Currently, the IMP brings together eight renowned researchers from around the world, under the leadership of Professor Zhiqiang Yan as the director. The institute focuses on the development of new tools and the understanding of physiological mechanisms at the "molecular—system" level. Embracing the institute's unique disciplinary focus on medical physiology, the theme of this year's conference was "From Molecules to Systems: Deepening Our Understanding of Human Life and Health." The conference attracted top scholars from the fields of physiology and medicine globally.

Experts at the conference shared their latest research findings, providing groundbreaking insights and innovative technological approaches to unravel physiological mechanisms and address major diseases. This exchange significantly advanced international academic collaboration and set new benchmarks in the field.

The opening ceremony of the conference was addressed with a welcome speech by Professor Lin Mei, Director of CIMR. He first extended a warm welcome on behalf of CIMR to the distinguished scholars from around the world. He emphasized that CIMR is committed to the principles of open collaboration and actively builds a global network of scientific research partnerships. He also invited the attending scholars to engage in on-site exchanges and jointly explore the frontiers of life sciences.

During the conference, renowned scientists from multiple countries shared their latest research findings.

Professor Songhai Shi from Tsinghua University delivered a speech titled “Opposite Fine Neocortical Disorganization Associated with Neurodevelopmental Disorders (Down Syndrome & Autism Spectrum Disorder).”

Professor Marcos Sotomayor from the University of Chicago presented a talk titled "Life under Tension: Exceptional Cadherins and TMC Channels for Hearing and Balance."

Professor Sung Bae Lee from the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology presented a lecture titled "Neuronal Bioenergetic Adaptation Requires TSPO-Mediated Gatekeeping of Metabolic Rewiring in Mitochondria to Sustain Resilience Against Neurodegeneration."

Professor Lu-Yang Wang from the University of Toronto delivered a lecture titled "Molecular Underpinnings of Synaptic Heterogeneity."

Professor Boxun Lu from Fudan University delivered a lecture titled "Potential New Degrader Technologies Tackling Misfolded or Transmembrane Protein Targets."

Professor Sebastian Rumpf from the University of Munster delivered a lecture titled "Cytoskeletal Mechanisms of Developmental Neurite and Synapse Pruning."

Professor Lin Mei from CIMR gave a speech titled "Neuromuscular Junction Formation and Related Disorders".

Professor Timothy A. Ryan from Weill Cornell Medical College delivered a lecture titled "Metabolic Vulnerabilities and Opportunities in Brain Function".

Professor Yulong Li from Peking University gave a speech titled "Orphan GPCRs, Chronic Liver Diseases and Itch: from Bench to Bedside".

Professor Victoria Salem from King's College London delivered a lecture titled "Imaging Diabetes from Brain to Islet".

Professor Shan-Lu Liu from the Ohio State University gave a speech titled "Role of Lipid-Modulating Proteins in Viral Infection".

At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhiqiang Yan, Director of Chinese Institute of Medical Physiology at CIMR and Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Capital Medical University, delivered the closing remarks. On behalf of the organizing committee, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the speakers, participants, and the conference staff, and congratulated everyone on the academic achievements of the conference.

Professor Yan highlighted that the conference brought together top minds in the fields of physiology and medicine from around the world. The insightful presentations and in-depth discussions by the scholars created a vibrant academic atmosphere, injecting new energy into the development of the discipline. He concluded by expressing the vision of making this conference a biennial brand event and extended a sincere invitation to global scholars to reconvene in Beijing in two years to continue exploring the frontiers of physiology and jointly create a new future for medical research.
