Laboratory Introduction

Dr. Zhiqiang Yan is a Professor and Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Capital Medical University, as well as an Investigator and Director at the Chinese Institute for Medical Physiology, Chinese Institutes for Medical Research, Beijing. He earned his bachelor's degree from Fudan University in 2004 and completed his Ph.D. in neurobiology at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing, and the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 2004 to 2009. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Yan conducted his postdoctoral research under Yuh-Nung Jan and Lily Jan at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the University of California, San Francisco. In 2013, he became a Professor at the School of Life Sciences, Fudan University. From 2020 to 2024, he served as a senior principal investigator and deputy director at the Institute of Molecular Physiology, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory. Dr. Yan studies sensory neurobiology, focuses on identifying the receptors and neural circuits for sensation and interoception, studies their working mechanism and related the diseases in sensory system. He has published numerous papers as a corresponding author in journals, including Neuron, PNAS, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Communications, and Cell Reports.

 

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors, with their advantages of high safety, low immunogenicity, and long-lasting expression, have become the core vector for gene therapy. More than a dozen AAV drugs have been approved for marketing worldwide, demonstrating the therapeutic potential of "one-time intervention, long-term benefit" for genetic diseases.

 

We are committed to leading the frontier transformation of gene therapy drug production, and we are now officially launching the preparation and construction of a fully automated, intelligent AAV drug "Dark Laboratory" (an unmanned intelligent manufacturing workshop). We are seeking a technical engineer with a background in both biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes and automation engineering to jointly complete the implementation of this project from 0 to 1. Open Positions: Technical Engineer (2 positions)

Main Responsibilities:

a. Design and implementation of the Dark Laboratory: Lead the process layout planning of the fully automated AAV drug production line, automation equipment selection, system integration, and on-site implementation, ensuring the achievement of the "Dark" (unmanned/minimally manned) operation goal.
b. Integration of process and automation: Gain an in-depth understanding of AAV drug production processes (upstream cell culture, transfection/infection, downstream purification, formulation, etc.), translate process requirements into automation control logic, and resolve technical bottlenecks in the automated scale-up of biological processes.
 

Qualifications:

a. Master's degree or above in automation, mechatronics, computer science, mechanical engineering, control science and engineering, bioengineering, or other related fields;
b. Work experience in the biopharmaceutical or high-end automation equipment industry is preferred;
c. Experience leading or participating in the planning, construction, or major renovation projects of biopharmaceutical automated production lines, dark factories, or intelligent manufacturing workshops is preferred.

Candidates who will graduate in the coming year (expected to receive their degree next year) are also welcome to apply; those who can join the lab for an internship in advance are preferred.
