Open Positions:

Assistant to Director of Chinese Institute for Biomedical AI Science (CIBAS)

 

We are seeking a technically grounded Senior Systems Engineer to serve as the primary technical Assistant to the Acting Director. In this position, you will build and drive CIBAS's core operational infrastructure from the ground up—translating our scientific vision into agentic computational pipelines, clinician-facing mobile specs, and federated data architectures.

 

Main Responsibilities:

a. AI Agent Orchestration & Computational Pipeline Engineering (Primary Focus)

· Design and deploy automated, agentic workflows that link multi-lab methodologies across CIBAS (target identification, generative molecular/antibody design, physics-based simulations, and systems toxicology).

· Standardize internal research code into production-ready APIs, containerized environments (Docker/Apptainer), and scalable HPC/GPU workflows on Slurm clusters.

· Develop agentic orchestration systems (using Python, LangGraph, AutoGen, or custom frameworks) to automate complex, multi-step biophysical and multi-omics modeling tasks.

b. Standalone Bedside Data Collection Frameworks (Secondary Focus)

· Architect secure, offline-first mobile or tablet applications (and mini-program technical specifications) for clinicians across CMU-affiliated hospital networks to gather structured real-world evidence (RWE).

· Establish local edge-synchronization, encryption, and data-deidentification protocols that enable compliant, controlled data egress across air-gapped hospital network boundaries satisfying HGRAC regulatory standards.

· Manage external software vendors or contract engineering teams to ensure mobile UI/UX specs align with hospital workflows.

c. Federated "Lab Vault" Database Infrastructure (Tertiary Focus)

· Design a modular, containerized database template ("Lab Vault") that individual CIMR laboratories can run independently on local servers.

· Implement a dual-zone permission model that guarantees labs complete control over their unpublished raw data while providing a simple interface to share published datasets across CIBAS.

 

Qualifications:

a. Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Systems Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

b. Agentic AI & Automation: Demonstrated experience implementing Agentic AI systems, LLM tool-calling architectures, or complex workflow automation (e.g., LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, Nextflow, or Prefect).

c. Application & System Architecture: Hands-on experience designing REST/gRPC APIs, client-server architectures, and technical specifications for mobile/web applications (iOS, Android, WeChat Mini-Programs, or cross-platform frameworks).

d. Core Technical Stack: Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Docker/Singularity, Linux/HPC environments, Slurm, and modern database platforms (PostgreSQL, graph databases, or vector stores).

e. Systems Mindset: Practical grasp of network security, offline-first data sync, encryption standards, and federated/distributed data architectures.

 

Preferred Experience:

· Direct experience integrating software pipelines with scientific compute clusters (HPC/GPU) or wrapping computational science CLI tools into web services/APIs.

· Experience with software system deployment within Chinese academic, clinical, or hospital IT environments.
