2025 CIMR Annual Retreat was successfully held from August 27 to 29. The academic sessions featured numerous authoritative scholars and young researchers from both domestic and international backgrounds. Over three days of intensive discussions, the conference comprehensively showcased the full spectrum of innovative advancements in biomedical research, from cutting-edge basic studies to clinical translational applications.
This year's conference included ten thematic forums and over forty high-level academic presentations, covering a wide range of important fields such as cell biology, immune regulation, neuroscience, cancer treatment, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular research, and virology. The presentations were both broad and deep, fully embodying the interdisciplinary integration and innovation-driven characteristics of the conference.

Opening Remarks by Professor Lin Mei
In the opening remarks, Professor Lin Mei, Director of Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR), Beijing, reflected on CIMR's journey from its inception and outlined its future directions. As a key new R&D institution strategically positioned by the Beijing Municipal Government, CIMR has grown rapidly from its initial single PI (Professor Guo-Min Li) to now boasting 34 PIs, with a total of over 500 faculty, staff, and students, including 169 graduate students. This robust growth has established CIMR as a significant force in advancing medical research to world-class levels.
Professor Mei emphasized that CIMR is a visionary strategic deployment by the Beijing Municipal Government and is one of the three core pillars of Capital Medical University, aimed at elevating medical research to international standards. Recently, Yong Yin, Deputy Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC and Mayor of Beijing, visited CIMR and highly commended its development. He also expressed continued support for CIMR and called for it to make greater contributions to Capital Medical University's efforts to achieve "Double First-Class" status.
Professor Mei extended special thanks to the Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing Municipal Government, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the National Institute of Biological Sciences (NIBS) for their strong support. He highlighted the exemplary role of NIBS, noting that four of the 34 PIs at CIMR are from NIBS. He also thanked President Xunming Ji, Party Secretary Wenliang Hu, and former President Yi Rao for their support. Additionally, Professor Mei expressed his trust and gratitude to all PIs, students, administrative teams, and technical support teams, whose collective efforts have made the vision of CIMR a reality.

Following the enthusiastic opening remarks, the conference proceeded to three days of academic excellence.

He acknowledged the latest research findings and innovative advancements discussed, and he looked forward to future innovations in medical science. He said:
"This academic annual retreat has been filled with inspiration and collaboration. Together, we have witnessed the innovative vitality of interdisciplinary integration and felt the vibrant energy of the younger generation of researchers.
Throughout the conference, a series of high-level presentations and in-depth discussions—especially in the areas of basic research, clinical translation, and chronic disease prevention and control—have showcased forward-looking progress and injected new momentum into the integration of medicine, education, research, and industry. We are particularly grateful for the outstanding contributions of all the speakers, whose insights have broadened our horizons and sparked new ideas."
Professor Guo-Min Li also composed a poem to summarize the achievements of the conference:
Setting sail once more, we chart a new course,
Together, we write a fresh chapter,
Breaking barriers, we see the wisdom of many,
Crossing boundaries, a hundred flowers bloom,
Deeply plowing the sea of research, we await rich harvests,
Clinical translation brings hope to all,
With perseverance, we look to the future,
Soaring together, we reach for the skies.
Finally, ProfessorGuo-Min Li said: "As you return to your research positions, I urge everyone to actively apply the insights gained from this conference: refine new ideas, expand collaboration networks, drive projects to fruition, and scale new heights in research. The Innovation Center is not just a research platform; it is a community dedicated to safeguarding public health through innovation. Let us always maintain the spirit of innovation and work together to advance medical science in China and around the world!"
