TITLE:

Theory and Practice: Innovation and Curiosity Driven Research

ABSTRACT:

Professor Barry Marshall, Nobel Laureate from the University of Western Australia, will deliver a keynote speech on curiosity and innovation-driven research.

He will review the landmark discovery of Helicobacter pylori as the causative agent of peptic ulcers and gastritis, and share the classic self-experiment that validated the hypothesis against mainstream skepticism. He will explain the acid-resistant mechanism of H. pylori and its novel pathway to gastric cancer via bone marrow-derived stem cells.

Against the global challenge of antibiotic resistance, he will introduce a precision diagnosis and treatment strategy using the non-invasive string test combined with qPCR, supported by large-scale epidemiological data from urban China. He will emphasize the critical value of early H. pylori eradication for gastric cancer prevention, demonstrating how persistent exploration and bold practice drive paradigm shifts in medical science.
